RULES:

SET UP: (Sutton Common)

SET UP TIMES:

10/24 between 10am and 5pm

10/25 between 10am and 2pm

If you have an idea as to when you will be setting up, please let me know so that I can try to be there to guide and assist!

When you arrive, you will find a marked spot and a 5-foot rebar stake to build your scarecrow. There are various ways to do this:

  • You can assemble your scarecrow onto a 2x4 at home and then attach it to the rebar with rope.

  • Alternatively, you can use a PVC pipe and slide it over the rebar (which is ½ inch wide).

  • Feel free to be creative with your own way of securing the scarecrow to the rebar.

Just ensure it is stable and won't easily fall over, and that any extra decorations are secure against the wind. If you don’t need a stake because your scarecrow is sitting, please let me know.

SIGNAGE:

Please add a weatherproof sign, no larger than 11 x 17 to identify who you are! Please make sure this is attached securely, but you can be creative and add a name to your display, etc.

THEME:

REVOLUTIONARY ROGUES

As we approach America’s 250th birthday in 2026, let’s start it off with some energy! This Halloween, we’re going with the Revolutionary Rogues theme—picture ghostly Paul Revere riding through the fields, a skeletal Betsy Ross stitching a haunted flag, or a zombie General Washington guarding the 250-year legacy. Get creative with colonial costumes, eerie props, and spooky twists on our founding heroes!

NO POLITICAL STATEMENTS PLEASE!

REMOVAL:

Please remove your display by November 1st. If your display is not removed, we will have to dispose of it, and this includes any props, etc. that you may be attached to! Please check on your display in the week to make sure everything is in order.

JUDGING:

$250 cash prize to winner.

Criteria:

1.  Thematic Adherence: Revolutionary Rogues (5 points)

    •  Does the scarecrow effectively embody the “Revolutionary Rogues” theme, evoking a spooky, colonial-era figure tied to America’s 250th anniversary?

2. Creativity and Originality (5 points)

    •  Does the scarecrow showcase innovative design and materials? Judges will reward unique, eye-catching elements, such as creative use of recycled materials, detailed costumes, or imaginative props that enhance the rogue persona. The design should stand out while remaining family-friendly.

3.  Structural Integrity and Stability (5 points)

    •  Is the scarecrow securely constructed to withstand outdoor conditions, including wind and rain?

4.  Presentation and Signage (5 points)

    •  Does the scarecrow include a weatherproof sign (max 11x17 inches) identifying the creator or naming the display, securely attached? The overall presentation should create a “wow” factor, with cohesive design elements and props that enhance the spooky, revolutionary theme. Props must be safe and family-friendly.

We can't wait to see the amazing scarecrows you'll create and the festive atmosphere they'll bring to the common on October 25th. Get ready to showcase your creativity, have a spooktacular time, and make this year’s scarecrow event the best one yet!
